Date and Tamarind Chutney is often referred to as a sweet curry (Pulinkari ). This is a lovely condiment with many dishes, but especially wonderful served as a side with Biryani or Sadhya.

Date and Tamarind Chutney (Pulinkari)
Description
Dates Pulinkari, also known as Eenthappazham Pulinkari, is a popular dish from Kerala, India. It's a sweet, savory, and tangy curry or chutney that is often served as a side dish, particularly with biryani or a traditional vegetarian feast called a sadhya.
Ingredients:

Soak the tamarind in a little boiled water till dissolved. Strain this solution and set aside.

Heat oil in semi deep pan.

Fry dates till softened set aside.

Fry garlic, then ginger as well (each separately) till light golden and set aside.

Remove oil except for 2- 3 Tbsp.

Crack mustard and curry leaves and lower the flame.

Add chilly powder and stir briefly.

Return the fried dates, garlic and ginger to the pan.

Also return the melted jaggery and the tamarind solution.

Let it boil well, till oil seperates on the top.
