Steamed Chicken Dumplings
Description
These Chinese Steamed Chicken Dumplings are a celebration of juicy, savory chicken filling encased in the silky smoothness of Sui Kow pastry. This thin, translucent wrapper allows the vibrant colors of the filling to peek through, hinting at the deliciousness within. Steaming these dumplings not only preserves their delicate flavor and moisture but also creates a wonderfully tender bite. Using Sui Kow pastry makes the wrapping process a breeze, allowing you to focus on creating a flavorful filling infused with aromatic ginger, scallions, and soy sauce.
Ingredients:
Instructions
-
Add the minced chicken to a bowl along with the condiments, ginger, freshly chopped herbs, pepper, and salt.
-
Mix with a fork – just till nicely combined – without overmixing. ( Over mixing will cause the filling to lose some of the soft, tender and moist quality).
-
Take 1 dumpling wrapper at a time and lightly moisten the edges.
-
Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center.
-
Gently wrap and seal the moist edges. Pleat into any simple dumpling shape. Only practice makes perfect…
-
Steam in a bamboo steamer or regular steamer: Line the steamer rack with greaseproof paper. Place the dumplings with sufficient space between them. They should not touch.
-
Steam for 8 – 10 minutes, covered.
-
Serve with any of your favorite dipping sauces. (Popular is light soy combined with sesame oil and minced ginger and black rice vinegar.
Note
- Dumpling wrappers are easily available at most stores that sell Asian products.
- Key Ingredients: Wheat starch wrappers, Chicken, Soy, Sesame oil, Ginger, Herbs.
I’m using a bamboo steamer. What’s the purpose of the grease proof paper, please?
hi! using paper is god even if using a bamboo steamer. it prevents the delicate wrapper from tearing.
