  • 2 cups bitter gourd slices, thin semi circle or circle slices
  • ¾ cup yoghurt
  • ¾ cup grated coconut
  • 1 shallot
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • curry leaves – as required
  • salt to taste
  • ¼ cup Refined oil


  • Sprinkle the slices of bittergourd with salt and turmeric if desired and set aside for a while.
  • Fry the slices till golden brown. Drain.
  • Blend together the coconut, yoghurt and shallot to a fine paste.
  • Add the ground paste and just enough boiled and cooled water for desired consistency.
  • Add the fried gourd slices.
  • Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, dry chili and curry leaves and add on top of the curry.
  • Serve.
