Instant Wheat Dosa | Gothambu Dosa

Instant Wheat Dosa | Gothambu Dosa  The quick breakfast remedy.

Instant wheat dosa is a life saver in my house on days when I wake up late or just am a little too sleep deprived to make a time consuming breakfast.

There are a few varieties of Wheat dosa that I have seen. Some versions are more savory, incorporating spice and other fresh ingredients. Some adding a bit of plain flour, semolina, dal or rice flour.

However, I prefer them with just wheat flour (Aata), water, ghee and salt! That’s just four ingredients! And you dont have to soak anything, grind anything or chop anything! Simply whisk everything together, heat your pan (tawa) and make just like you would make regular dosas. It goes well with any curry (especially coconut milk based curries) or if you prefer sweet, simply serve with coconut milk and sugar! I personally love it with my tomato curry and some simply dry black chick peas (Kala Chana/ Kadala) or Ghee Roasted Chicken.

In our house, Bee hoon is a staple breakfast item. Bee hoon is Rice Vermicelli, which is easily available in the dried form. Sometimes there is nothing more comforting than  Nice Soft Boiled Eggs with Toast soldiers. My children recently took a liking to soft boiled eggs after having them at a friends house. I remembered how my mom used to serve them with wholemeal toast soldiers and I always asked for more. So I have a new after school snack for the kids.

Soft Boiled Eggs – obviously should not be overcooked. To get that lovely texture that you can scoop out with a spoon straight from the shell or dunk your toast in : make sure the eggs do not boil in water. The perfect soft boiled egg for many, consists of a slightly runny yolk and a custardy white. Serve in egg cups or – my kids like these tiny bowls.

Murtabak Recipe with Chicken

Murtabak is a pan fried folded flat bread that can be plain or stuffed with Mutton, Chicken or Egg. It is  said to have originated in Yemen, influenced by the large Indian Expatriate Community there. It is very common is Saudi Arabia too.

It is said to have been originally named “Muttabar” by the Chefs from Kerala, India – ‘Mutta’ meaning “Egg” and ‘bar’ short for “Barotta”which is a derivative of the Hindi word ‘Paratta’ (Flatbread). The name is thought to have mutated to “Muttabag” which means “Folded” in Arabic. Eventually the common name in Arab Countries became “Muttabak”, and in Asian Countries like Malaysia and Singapore, it is called “Murtabak”. In these countries it is mainly made by Indian Muslim Hawkers.
